Phoenix Trip – May 2009

2009 May 16

I had another short trip to Phoenix in May,  only two nights.  I always enjoy my time there, and this time was no exception.

Not many photos were taken this trip, but that is OK.  While there, I got to spend some time in the sun by the pool with Brent and Sarah, and almost get a sun burn.  It doesn’t take long with that intense Arizona sun.  I also got to see Scottsdale, see the new Star Trek movie, grill, and go to the Phoenix Aquarium with Missy.  Fun stuff!

My Trip to Kentucky – April 2009

Shortly after receiving my flight benefits, I went to visit Laura in Wilmore, Kentucky.  It took me three planes to get down there and three planes to get back.  On the way down I got to see the Minneapolis, Memphis and Lexington airports, and on the way back I got to see the Detroit airport instead of the Memphis airport.

Here is the Detroit Airport tunnel on my journey back to Fargo:

In April, the weather is wonderful when you get farther south than Minnesota or North Dakota.  When I walked out of the airport is was a “cool” day at about 70 degrees.  I thought that it was wonderful.  The grass was green, trees had leaves on them, and it was enjoyable to be outside.  Even a little warm for me coming from the frozen tundra or North Dakota.

I had about a day and a half down there in Kentucky, but we filled the days with driving, seeing the Lexington Legends (a minor league baseball team), finding Moonpies, going to church, and seeing some of the sights around town.

All in all it was a fun trip!  Check out a few of the photos below.

Fargo Flooding – March 2009

In the spring of 2009, the Red River Valley and surrounding areas experienced massive amounts of river flooding and overland flooding.  In addition to the huge amounts of water around, the circumstances were compounded by cold weather and plenty of snow to go with it.  I don’t have any photos of the FargoDome, or sandbag central, but I do have some of where I was.  In the mix below you will find photos of people sandbagging at a South Fargo home, a business in Kragness, MN, and areas around Fargo and Moorhead.  Make sure that you check out both pages of photos.

Phoenix Trip – February 2009

I decided to go down to Phoenix again, but this time I brought a couple of friends down with me.  Every time I get off a plane I am confused about where I am.  Seriously, air travel is so quick!  The weather was warm for our standards… but that isn’t hard to beat when it is -20 out.

The trip was packed with sights to be seen and fun to be had.  We saw the Grand Canyon and Sedona in one day and were back in Phoenix by 6:00 PM so Missy could go to work.  Just to give you an idea, the Grand Canyon is about a four hour drive from Phoenix.  When you look at the photos below, you will notice that there was a lot of snow at the Grand Canyon.  I actually fell asleep on the drive up to the Grand Canyon, and when I woke up there was more snow than we had in Moorhead.

We took a hike up Camelback Mountain, drove the Apache Trail, saw the Rooseveldt Dam, rode public transportation, saw the Desert Botanical Gardens, saw the Suns arena, and Chase Field, and got to hang out with Missy, Sarah, and Brent.  Good times.

Philadelphia – September 2008

In September I had the opportunity to see the great city of Philadelphia.  I knew two people out there, and both were up for hanging out and seeing the town.  The great thing about Philly and where I was staying is that we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go!

While there, I got to see a couple of art schools, and the art that went with it, plenty of the city center, see John McCain, see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, try my first ever Philly cheese steak, and play some sweet ping-pong.  Needless to say it was a fun trip!

On the way back to Fargo I had a twelve hour layover in Denver, and I found out that both of my parents were going to be in Denver at the same time.  How crazy is that?  So my mom picked me up and we saw the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Buffalo Bill’s grave site, and had some nice driving time in the mountains.

Check out the photos below.  Make sure that you check out both pages of photos.  Enjoy!
